YOUR SPIRITUAL WORSHIP – PART 2

There are so many situations beyond our control going on in the world, some people are saying that the end is near and that Jesus is coming soon.  What I know is that the Bible tells us that no one knows when Jesus will come back as it would be like a thief in the night.

Matthew 24:  36 “But about that day or hour no one knows, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father. 37 As it was in the days of Noah, so it will be at the coming of the Son of Man. 38 For in the days before the flood, people were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, up to the day Noah entered the ark; 39 and they knew nothing about what would happen until the flood came and took them all away. That is how it will be at the coming of the Son of Man. 40 Two men will be in the field; one will be taken and the other left. 41 Two women will be grinding with a hand mill; one will be taken and the other left.  42 “Therefore keep watch, because you do not know on what day your Lord will come. 43 But understand this: If the owner of the house had known at what time of night the thief was coming, he would have kept watch and would not have let his house be broken into. 44 So you also must be ready, because the Son of Man will come at an hour when you do not expect him.

One thing we can do is to be more aware of our spiritual walk with Christ.  One definition in particular encapsulates the priority we should give to worship as a spiritual discipline: Worship is to honour with extravagant love and extreme submission (Webster’s Dictionary, 1828).

The church has always tried to help us get a firm grasp of the things of God.  This is done by instilling set times for prayer, set times for fasting, set times of worship and also set times of reading the Bible whereby one has a better understanding of God.  It is during our time of ‘spiritual worship’, that we are able to hear the Holy Spirit clearly, as He gives us spiritual insight and spiritual discernment.  John 4: 23 Yet a time is coming and has now come when the true worshippers will worship the Father in the Spirit and in truth, for they are the kind of worshippers the Father seeks.

When we spend time in His presence, we fellowship with God, as we get a download from Heaven during those times when our spirits are one with the Holy Spirit.  As we spend time with God, He will divulge and disclose issues that are close to His heart or issues about us to us.

Spending time with God is our spiritual worship and it is necessary for us to cultivate the habit of doing more of it during the time we are in globally.  There are times when God only wants you on your own and wants that alone time with you.  As human beings, we have friends that are close to us and those that are not.  Those who are close to us know more about us than those who are not.  This same principle exist with God too.  The more time we spend reading, praying or worshipping, the closer we are to Him.  There are things that God will not say to you in the midst of others and some things are for your ears only.  Nehemiah 9:3 They stood where they were and read from the Book of the Law of the Lord their God for a quarter of the day, and spent another quarter in confession and in worshipping the Lord their God.  How much time time have you spent with Him lately?

The more time you spend with Him, the more He will reveal things to you.  And your personal revelation is often linked to the quality of your communion with God; you cannot commune with God too much.  Acts 13:12 While they were worshipping the Lord and fasting, the Holy Spirit said, “Set apart for me Barnabas and Saul for the work to which I have called them.” There are things that God wants to tell you during your personal time of spiritual worship.

Matt 6:6 But when you pray, go into your room, and when you have shut your door, pray to your Father who is in the secret place; and your Father who sees in secret will reward you openly.    You give into a relationship your value and there are things we must do to earn that closeness with God.  It is about you and God in the secret place.

We engage in spiritual worship and fellowship because it brings us closer to the triune God.  1 John 1:3 We proclaim to you what we have seen and heard, so that you also may have fellowship with us. And our fellowship is with the Father and with his Son, Jesus Christ.

When we offer God our acts of spiritual worship, we are allowing Him into our hearts, as He changes us to become more like Him.  We are transformed into His likeness as He reveals the truth of His Word to us.  He will also reveal the state of our hearts to us.  It is equally a time when we can be free in His presence, as we talk to Him, ask questions as we seek His face.

Psalm 96:8 Evaluate your expressions of worship so that through singing, declaring, and giving, you will “give to the LORD the glory he deserves.  The promise is that when you worship God in this way, he will come and commune with you. Above all, God will respond to your worship by making your heart more like his.

Romans 12:1 Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God—this is your true and proper worship. Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.   As children of God, to do what pleases God should be our primary concern; it should always be main focus.

Our Lord Jesus is not only the Truth of God’s Word, but He is also the Word of God (John 1:14) who became flesh.  You cannot worship God outside of the Spirit of God or the Truth of the Word of God.  Take time out of your busy schedule to seek God by spending quality time in personal Bible study, time away from people and spending that alone time with God as you feast at his table.

The more you cultivate this Godly habit, the more you will feel closer to him as you offer him your spiritual act of worship.  In that quiet place, you will experience the Spirit of the Living God’s power.  It is at this place that He will also reveal to you what is in His heart.
