WORSHIP AN ACT OF SURRENDER

Worship should not only be at a gathering of Christians but it should also be part of our daily lives.  We know that God is worshipped in heaven without ceasing.

Rev 4: 8b Day and night they never stop saying: “‘Holy, holy, holy is the Lord God Almighty,’ who was, and is, and is to come.”  Whenever the living creatures give glory, honour and thanks to him who sits on the throne and who lives for ever and ever, 10 the twenty-four elders fall down before him who sits on the throne and worship him who lives for ever and ever. They lay their crowns before the throne and say: 11 “You are worthy, our Lord and God, to receive glory and honour and power, for you created all things, and by your will they were created and have their being.”

Ps 96: Sing to the Lord a new song; sing to the Lord, all the earth.  Sing to the Lord, praise his name; proclaim his salvation day after day.  Declare his glory among the nations, his marvelous deeds among all peoples.

Ascribe to the Lord, all you families of nations, ascribe to the Lord glory and strength.  Ascribe to the Lord the glory due his name; bring an offering and come into his courts.  Worship the Lord in the splendour of his holiness; tremble before him, all the earth.  10 Say among the nations, “The Lord reigns.”

Worship is a time to connect with the Lord through songs.  There is something about worshipping God that takes you to a very holy place; or it makes you forget your circumstances and you bask in the beauty of His Holiness.  Worship will make you forget you are sick, that you have no money or that you are dealing with a heartache etc.  Worship is different because it takes place within our spirits.  Worship is the ability to lose oneself in the adoration of our God.  Praise can be a part of worship but worship goes beyond praise; it goes into the inner court and the Holy of Holies.

Ps 100: 4 Enter his gates with thanksgiving and his courts with praise; give thanks to him and praise his name.

Worship gets to the heart of whom God is.  In worship, we have to let go of all manner of worldly issues; with worship, you let go of who you are and concentrate on Him, God Almighty.  In worship, it is about adoring God for who He is and not just for what He has done for us.  Worship is about surrendering all areas of our lives to God, the good, the bad and the ugly.

In Ps 95:6 Come, let us bow down in worship, let us kneel before the Lord our Maker; for he is our God and we are the people of his pasture, the flock under his care.

2 Chron 29:28 The whole assembly bowed in worship, while the musicians played and the trumpets sounded. All this continued until the sacrifice of the burnt offering was completed.

There is something about worship that allows the Holy Spirit to convict us, speak to us and also comfort us.  And hence, you will see someone who has a lot of challenges, totally lost in worship.  God wants us, His creation to worship Him with reckless abandon.  And this is why God said that David was a man after God’s heart. (Acts 13:22).  David knew how to worship God. (2 Samuel 6:14 -22).  When is wife Michal spoke to him about how he abased himself before servants, vain fellows by dancing shamelessly, David responded by saying verse 21 David said to Michal, “It was before the Lord, who chose me rather than your father or anyone from his house when he appointed me ruler over the Lord’s people Israel—I will celebrate before the Lord. 22 I will become even more undignified than this, and I will be humiliated in my own eyes. But by these slave girls you spoke of, I will be held in honour.”

Pls tell me how God will not love someone like David because of the way, he let go of himself and shamelessly danced, worshipped before God?.

The other thing with worship is that it is relational; the act of worship is a two way street.  The Hebrew word for worship is ‘shaha,’ and it means to bow low or to prostrate.  Worship involves our bowing low before the King of Glory but not only physically but also in our hearts.

Our worship is an expression of adoration and reverence.  Worship is an act of submission before God.  God wants us to worship Him in spirit and in truth.  Jesus told the woman at the well in John 4: 23 Yet a time is coming and has now come when the true worshippers will worship the Father in the Spirit and in truth, for they are the kind of worshippers the Father seeks. 24 God is spirit, and his worshippers must worship in the Spirit and in truth.”

Father Lord, help us to surrender all to you and worship you as you ought to be worshipped.
