THE PRESENCE OF GOD

Obededom’s name is synonymous with the ark of God, which is the presence of God.  Because David was afraid, he did not want to bring the ark of the Lord to His home.  The ark of the Lord was in Obededom’s house for three months only and the Lord blessed him and his household.

When David was told that God was blessing Obededom and his household because of the ark of the Lord being in his home, David decided that it was time for him to go and get the ark of God to where it belongs, at the city of David.

You can read the story in 2 Sam 10-15.

Earlier on in the Bible, when Moses was leading the children of Israel out of Egypt; Moses said to God in Ex 33:13 If you are pleased with me, teach me your ways so I may know you and continue to find favor with you. Remember that this nation is your people.”

This was a man after God’s heart; Moses wanted God and more of Him.  God recognised Moses’s heart cry and said to him in Exodus 33: 14 The Lord replied, “My Presence will go with you, and I will give you rest.” 15 Then Moses said to him, “If your Presence does not go with us, do not send us up from here.

Now, as New Testament Christians, we have the Holy Spirit; we carry the presence of God with us all the time.  The thing is though, do we acknowledge Him?  Do we carry Him along as we make plans?  Do we ask Him before we embark on any project?  Do we say ‘Good morning Holy Spirit?’ Do we?

Acknowledging the Holy Spirit in all that we do is so important for us as Christians because we are warned in 1 Peter 5:8 … Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour.  If you don’t have the covering of His presence, you open yourself up to the attack and onslaught of the enemy.  It would be like someone who looked out and saw that it was raining but decided the rain was not heavy enough and went out and by the time he walked to his destination, he was soaking wet.

We are privileged that the Spirit of God is in us; Jesus called Him the Comforter, the Spirit of truth John 14:16 And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another advocate to help you and be with you forever—17 the Spirit of truth. The world cannot accept him, because it neither sees him nor knows him. But you know him, for he lives with you and will be in you.

If you are wondering how to activate the presence of the Holy Spirit?  I would say acknowledge the Holy Spirit; greet Him; ask Him questions; tell Him you love Him; play worship songs and spend time in His presence.  As you do this on a daily basis, you will soon activate the habit of talking to Him and asking for His help all the time.  And voila, you and the Holy Spirit will be one.

The enemy is getting more and more fierce in his battle against us Christians and as such we need to be under the covering of the Holy Spirit.  Ps 91:Whoever dwells in the shelter of the Most High, will rest in the shadow of the Almighty.  ( I tend to personalise it, because I dwell in the secret place of the most High God, I will abide under the shadow of the Almighty).

Abide in His presence and watch Him fight your battles for you in Jesus name.
