This is the last part of my series on ‘Expect it to get worse before it gets better’.

I have been studying the Bible for stories of God’s miracles where it got worse before it got better and today, I want to talk about the children of Israel and their Red Sea experience.

In Ex 14: God said to Moses: Then I will harden Pharaoh’s heart, so that he will pursue them; and I will gain honor over Pharaoh and over all his army, that the Egyptians may know that I am the Lord.” And they did so.  God said this after Pharaoh had finally allowed to let the people go, I say it in one sentence, but Pharaoh’s heart was so hardened that God had sent ten plagues into Egypt because Pharaoh would not let the people go.  You would think that after Pharaoh told Moses, that the people could go, he would keep to his word it right?.  Well, as we see from the above verse, God hardened Pharaoh’s heart and he pursued after the children of Israel because we are told in verse Now it was told the king of Egypt that the people had fled, and the heart of Pharaoh and his servants was turned against the people; and they said, “Why have we done this, that we have let Israel go from serving us?”

Pharaoh regretted saying that the children of Israel could go and he decided to pursue them.  It got to a point that the children of Israel got to the Red sea and looking back, they saw the Egyptian army drawing close to them.  They got angry and started making negative comments to Moses.  Moses said in verse 13 And Moses said to the people, “Do not be afraid. Stand still, and see the salvation of the Lord, which He will accomplish for you today. For the Egyptians whom you see today, you shall see again no more forever.14 The Lord will fight for you, and you shall hold your peace.”

This was a time of desperation, this was a time where the children of Israel were loosing hope and were thinking that it would have been better for them to stay in Egypt and keep being servants to the Egyptians than agree to go and serve their God.  This was a time of total loss of hope and expectation.  They preferred to go back and serve their slave masters instead of pushing through destiny.  They felt safe in being ruled by slave masters but could not handle this God who wanted them to trust Him and move forward in the face of adversity.  Seeing the Red sea in front of them and the Egyptian army behind them, they thought their time was up and the end was near.

Thank goodness, that they had Moses leading them as Moses had had his experience with God and so he knew God. He was able to hold his peace, when the people were hurling insults at him.  In verse 13 And Moses said to the people, “Do not be afraid. Stand still, and see the salvation of the Lord, which He will accomplish for you today. For the Egyptians whom you see today, you shall see again no more forever.14 The Lord will fight for you, and you shall hold your peace.”

God told Moses in verse 15 And the Lord said to Moses, “Why do you cry to Me? Tell the children of Israel to go forward. 16 But lift up your rod, and stretch out your hand over the sea and divide it. And the children of Israel shall go on dry ground through the midst of the sea.

The end of this story is that we see God performing a miracle that no man can perform.  He divided the Read sea.  In verse 22 So the children of Israel went into the midst of the sea on the dry ground, and the waters were a wall to them on their right hand and on their left. 23 And the Egyptians pursued and went after them into the midst of the sea, all Pharaoh’s horses, his chariots, and his horsemen.

I don’t know what you are believing God for but one thing I do know is that our God is able.  No matter how dire the situation looks, pls hold on and don’t give up.  God is good and He is faithful; He will bring your miracles to come to pass in Jesus name.

PRAYER POINTS: Lord help me to hold on to you when I am going through the fire; Lord help my unbelief; Lord perform your miracle, signs and wonders in my life in Jesus name.
