Don’t be discouraged

1 Samuel 30:6 Now David was greatly distressed, for the people spoke of stoning him, because the soul of all the people was grieved, every man for his sons and his daughters. But David strengthened himself in the LORD his God.

Who can say that they have never been in a situation whereby they felt discouraged about one thing or the other in their life or in the life of that of their loved ones’?

We have all been there and the Word of God for us is that we need to strengthen ourselves in the Lord, like David did.

David and his men had been away for a few days and came back home to find that they had been invaded by the Amalekites, who had raided their homes, burnt them and taken their women and all captive.  With such a situation, everyone was angry and David himself felt low and depressed.  

Have you been in a situation where all seems to be going well for you and all of a sudden, something happens and this derails and side tracks you totally.  I can tell you that sometimes this has happened to me and I have gotten to the point where I got distressed or depressed.

What did I then do?  I had to ‘strengthen myself in the Lord’ and get closer to God and enquire of Him in order to find out the reason why this had happened.  No matter how low you might be feeling, do try to get closer God.  Don’t be distressed and get further away from God, as that is what Satan wants you to do, he wants you to feel low and bad and then start sinning against God.

David decided to enquire from God and called on the prophet to find out if he should pursue and overtake?  God’s response was for David to   “Pursue, for you shall surely overtake and shall surely rescue.”

And that is the crux of this message, don’t let the devil have the upper hand over you.  Get closer to God instead and hear what the Word of God says to you, that you should pursue, overtake and get back what is yours in Jesus name.

PRAYER POINTS: Holy Spirit, take any form of distress, anxiety and depression away from from me and me loved ones’ in Jesus name.  Spirit of the Living God, help me to raise above distress and depression in my life.  You the spirit of distress and anxiety, I command you in the name of Jesus to get out of me, you have no right in me in Jesus name.
