A SPECIAL RELATIONSHIP

Special relationship

I want us to look at the story of Samuel.  Samuel was born from a place of prayer, anguish and seek God’s face.  Hannah, Samuel’s mother had been barren, while her husbands’ first wife, Peninnah had her own children and would taunt Hannah.  Before Samuel was born, his mother had gone to  Shiloh year after year to pray for a son.

We know how Samuel was born, from a place of prayer 1 Sam 1: 11 And she vowed a vow and said, “O Lord of hosts, if you will indeed look on the affliction of your servant and remember me and not forget your servant, but will give to your servant a son, then I will give him to the Lord all the days of his life, and no razor shall touch … and and his mother Hannah dedicated him to the Lord at a young age, by his mother Hannah, I Sam 1:26-28.  By the time Samuel was born, Hannah had no choice but to dedicate him to God.  God is always faithful though, as He later blessed Hannah with three more boys and two girls after Samuel.

Samuel was ministering in the house of the Lord and helping the priest Eli from a young age, as his mother had left him with Eli at the age of four.  1 Sam 2:11 Then Elkanah went home to Ramah, but the boy ministered before theLord under Eli the priest.   From a young age, God was calling Samuel’s name, what a relationship.  1 Sam 3: Again the Lord called, “Samuel!” And Samuel got up and went to Eli and said, “Here I am; you called me.”

When Eli died, Samuel took over his role, as Eli’s sons had sinned in the eyes of God, when Eli was alive by being deceitful.

God counted Samuel worthy, Ps 99:6  Moses and Aaron were among his priests, Samuel also was among those who called upon his name.   They called to the Lord, and he answered them.

Samuel served God all the days of his life and always sought God’s face in all that he did.  I believe that because of Hannah dedicating Samuel to God, God had eyes for Samuel and inclined His eyes to everything that Samuel said or asked of him.  It seems as if the dedication had placed Samuel a step above his peers in the eyes of God, a place of favour and this special union of dedication helped Samuel to have that special relationship with God.

Today, the special relationship that we have with God is believing in Jesus and the finished work of the Cross; that sets up to apart from our non-Christian peers.  We too like Samuel can run to God and seek His face, when we are going through difficult situations.

Christ is our Redeemer and a very present help in time of trouble.  He wants to have a special relationship with all of us and Isa 44:24 say ‘Thus says the Lord, your Redeember, and He who formed you from the womb.  I am the Lord, who makes all things, Who stretches out the heavens all alone, Who spreads abroad the earth by Myself.’   No matter what you are going through, God does want to be involved in it, good or bad.  He is waiting for us to call on Him, let’s do so.

PRAYER POINTS: Lord do not let the death of Jesus be in vain in my life; Father perfect all that concerns me in Jesus name; Kind of Glory, I rededicate my life to you, be with me, as you were with Samuel in Jesus name.
